In Rememberance

Before I continue on with my other stories, I would like to take a moment to remember my Grandmother who passed away recently. It was very sad not being able to be there with my family through all of this, but I am glad to know she is at peace now. After surviving two broken hips, it was an unexpected stroke that turned fatal. I'm so glad that while my parents were here in New Zealand she got to spend time with her two other children.

Something so unexpected reminds you that you never know and that you should always cherish the time you have with people you love. I'm glad that I spent time with her saying goodbye before I left. And though she had convinced herself that I was running off to New Zealand to get married to Wells (before we were engaged), at least she left with the right idea :)

I would also like to take this moment to reflect on the anniversary of the Christchurch February quake that killed many and destroyed a city. Driving around today, flowers filled every traffic cone and in the park flowers and petals are being placed in the river. It's been a long year for this city, but it's nice to see how strong they still are.

  1. Very nice, Rachel. We missed you but Grandma would have been so happy for you and Wells as well as very excited by all your adventures. So please know in your heart that she wouldn't have wanted you there if it meant missing out on New Zealand! And thanks for bringing the heartbreak of Christchurch into our minds again. Too often we forget the impact of such disasters once the news reports stop. Here's to all Christchurchers and their resilience!
